The Ministry of Post and Telematics (MPT) has
signed a decision permitting four firms, Vietnam
Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT),
Sai Gon Post and Telecommunications Joint Stock
(SPT), the Corporation for Financing and Promoting
Technology (FPT) and Once Connection Inc (OCI)
to provide Internet telephony services as of
August 28.
According to the decision, the four above businesses
can provide Internet Phone service in Vietnam,
at a floor charge of VND1,400/minute.
VNPT will launch its Fone-VNN service as of
September. Initially, the corporation will offer
a pre-paid option for two services, PC to PC
and PC to phone, facilitating both incoming
and outgoing calls. Pre-paid cards will be issued
for values of VND50,000, VND100,000, VND200,000,
VND300,000 and VND500,000.
SPT has provided similar services since August
29. The company will also issue around 50,000
pre-paid cards, with the same values as those
issued by VNPT. It will then offer account based
services, as well as USB phone.
